The calm before the storm

School starts in less than two weeks... eek! Where has my summer gone? Back in May I dreamed about all of the time that I would just get to play, and snuggle, and hold and rock baby girl... and I don't want these days to end! She has grown SO much this summer... almost walking(!) and she explores EVERYTHING... I love my little squish. : )

We just got back from Orlando a couple of days ago. We had SUCH a great time! Harry Potter world was awesome... We toured the castle twice, drank butterbeer, shopped and even had wands choose us in Ollivander's shop... a GREAT time! As much as the break from the everyday was needed, now it is really crunch time... to get all of my last minute school and chores done before I am too mentally and physically exhausted to do them.

Next on my list is birthday outfit, invitations, and complete the rest of the decorations.... Etsy and Hobby lobby are a girl's best friend!

I also have a new craft project I am excited to start... a "vacation wall" I bought several cheap frames at the dollar store (4x6 and 5x7) and you choose one picture from all of the different vacations you have been on... it is going to look great... as long as I can make it look like it does in my head anyways.. ha.

Until Next time,

Ta-da! My Rainbow fabric garland is complete! Simple, and cute. I think I will use it in my classroom after I use it for Charlotte's birthday party!

unfinished projects

I really do not have anything truly life changing to report. Things have been pretty unsettled here in the Adams's household for a few weeks. Jordan has won 3 trips to Napa Valley this summer, A friend of Jordan's came to stay with us, Me getting all of my thyroid testing/whatnot done... blah! anyway, I have many GREAT ideas that I have somewhat started, but not finished... which truthfully drives me a bit insane.

My current projects:
1. Charlotte's 1st birthday party. EEK! My baby is growing up! I have decided that I like the rainbow theme... I am not one to really like a true "Theme" ( I don't like clothes with characters on them or whatnot) But I figure with the rainbow idea, I could do a lot of things in solids, throw them together and make it look somewhat professional...hehehe
I have started looking around for some things that could be cute for her party, and of course "pinned" a TON of ideas... every time I go out, I pick up something, then just throw it in the closet...
2. Science notebooks. School really is about to start again. And when you have to do 80 of anything, it takes quite a while.... hence, I have started back to school stuff.
3. Decorating our master bathroom. Mostly done here, just looking for something else.. not quite sure what it is yet... but I am sure when I see it it will just JUMP out at me : )
4. I decided that I wanted to make scrap fabric garland, to hang in my classroom, or for Charlotte's birthday... or both... so I have all of that laying around as well...
Seriously my ADD is starting to set in... must finish SOMETHING!

Oh! And we go to Orlando the start of August... Finally going to see Harry Potter World.. I am so unbelievably excited, I can barely stand it!

I promise... when I finish my first project I will zap a picture of it, and post it for all to admire ;)

Trying something new

It has been raining in Houston continuously for almost a week now, and the forecast says that there is still a weeks worth of rain ahead... all of this staying indoors has got me cleaning more than my crazy amount of normal.... Which led me to my bathroom. (or spa retreat... a girl can dream!) I am for the most part disgusted by my bathroom... I mean, men are gross! My shower in particular... I clean it often but the grime (a word like grime should never be associated with a ladies bathroom...) just never went away.... which led me to Pinterest... I made one of those homemade bathroom cleaners today that every week someone I know posts. You know, the one that promises even the most frugal of moms can enjoy a naturally clean bathroom.. Vinegar and dish soap... sounds easy enough... so I try it. I only had the "crisp apple" scent of soap which is lime green. When mixed with the vinegar looked like sludge. I went TO TOWN spraying down the tub/shower/sinks whatnot... with the sludge. (By now my bathroom looks a TON worse than it did before, only now it smells like a combination of beer battered fish and chips with malt vinegar/dying easter eggs/hint of granny smith)

Results- The tub was SPARKLING! cleaner than I have ever seen it before! Yay! With the shower however, I did not have much luck... I just don't think my sludge was strong enough for the amount of soap scum I had accumulated, and I just resulted back to my trusty clorox. (which added a sterile smell to my beer battered fish, chips and malt vinegar/ dying easter eggs/granny smith)

After all that cleaning it was time for some self pampering...

One thing about Charlotte going to bed in her own room, is that she is ready to be put down and have me get out of her hair around 7pm... LOVING the down time/breather I am getting in the evening... gives Jordan and I a chance to eat dinner/watch tv/ or make cookies at 10 pm... (like I did last night.) BUT, Jordan is out of town for a trip that he won with work.... so it is very quiet around here tonight. I didn't know what to do with my time! This NEVER happens! So I decided to give myself a pedicure (Because Lord knows I need one) and save us the 40 bucks this month. I even made a foot scrub, soaked my feet in salts... mmm.....

It was nice, but it was a lot of work! First off the scrub (honey, brown sugar, lemon, olive oil) was VERY messy.... Yes, I got it all over my freshly cleaned tub...sigh. And some how I think I have honey in the crease of my elbow.... don't ask me how that got there. This recipe PROMISED I would have feet ready for summer.... nope. Just oily honey scented feet. It was relaxing though just sitting there in the quiet, reading, waiting for the salts to "attack my dead skin" And I do feel like my feet are a little softer. Always good. But there is something to be said about just going and getting a pedicure... and one of those is not having honey in awkward crevices of your arms : )

The VERY simple things

Does anyone out there get as much satisfaction as I do about throwing things away? For the past couple of days during Charlotte's nap time I have been organizing different drawers/closets/cabinets and have thrown a TON of junk away. (Its almost like I was a drawer hoarder..eek!) But I found myself OBSESSED with it! Everytime I threw something in the trash bag it was like a victory! Then I couldn't stop! I was searching everywhere for stuff to throw away... I guess I just liked the control of it, and of course, organizing is one of my top favorite things to do....I am not sure if this is normal. I don't think many other people enjoy cleaning out the cabinet under their bathroom sinks as much as I do... and I am ok with that : )

We have had a really great couple of days. Today is the first day I have gotten out of my PJs in the last 3 days. Charlotte and I have just played. We played outside on the deck, looked over our alphabet flash cards (Yes, she REALLY loves it) wrestled on the floor, read books, EVERYTHING. I loved it! When school starts back up again, it will be hard on the both of us I think.

Jordan and I have been talking about refinancing our house... which got us thinking about how long we will really live in our current house, which made me semi-obsess over the HAR website...There are probably 1,000 houses for sale in our area, and I have taken a virtual tour of every single one.... crazy, I know! Once you have seen one, you basically have seen them all... but I can't help it!

Tomorrow is Mommies night out with some of the moms in our play group... dinner and a movie while Dads stay home with the babies! Excited!

Have a great weekend!

Mason Fruit Jars

Ever since I have had Charlotte, I have needed MORE time. All of my time is spent smooching/hugging/smelling and cuddling. But when January came around it was time for me to go back to school... I dreaded leaving my baby. I am fortunate enough to have my mom, Charlotte's Mimi keep her during the week, which takes away ALL anxiety, but I still hated leaving her.

With going back to school comes the dreaded packing lunch/remembering to take lunch/20 minutes to scarf a lunch/remember to bring back your lunch kit- routine. I needed something easier, that would take LESS time. That is when I came up with my Mason Jar Idea.... well... Pinterest beaconed to me the Mason Jar idea... I just modified it to fit my family.

So I went to the grocery store one Sunday, bought some jars and some veggies. I started out with the One Quart Jars, added EVERY color of vegetable I could find, and layered it super pretty inside the jars. I used Spinach, baby carrots, yellow bell pepper, red bell pepper, grape tomatoes, sugar snap peas, broccoli, zucchini, squash, banana peppers, and I also added a boiled egg, cubed cheese, almonds and sunflower seeds. It seriously looked like the produce department exploded inside a jar... very prettily of course : ) I made 5 of these. (One for every school day lunch) Then in the mornings I would just grab a jar, squirt a little dressing in, close the lid and off I go!

This was for the most part a success. I would recommend anyone who LOVES veggies and fresh lunches to consider it. The only downside was Sunday prep took a bit of time. I had to wash, dry and create the jars. It was a lot of work for just 5 jars. (My husband will not eat most salad veggies) The upside, I did not have to make a lunch AT ALL the rest of the week, I had a FRESH lunch that I looked forward to, and all of the veggies stayed crisp in the jar in the fridge (I was worried about Friday's salad) I kept up this salad jar lunch for a month.... then I decided Progresso soup was just as fast : )

However, I am currently obsessed with our Breakfast Fruit mason Jars.... this one my husband loves, and is a TON easier to create. I bought the smaller mason jars, and layered grapes, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and strawberries and chocolate chips. I make about 10 of these on Sunday afternoon, and they stay fresh in my fridge all week : )

I LOVE these jars.... I love them so much that I am continuing to make them throughout the summer, even though I am home to have breakfast. In the mornings before school I would open one up, put a couple of spoonfuls of vanilla yogurt on top, close up the lid and throw it in my purse. I would usually eat mine around 9:30... right at the start of my 2nd block.

I felt so fancy eating my "yogurt parfait" while walking around checking homework/going over a warm up. My students even became interested (as students do ) with what I was eating. Before I knew it I had parent notes coming back in folders, thanking me for getting their children to eat FRUIT at school : )

Also, I love the way these jars make my fridge look.... Because they are in the mason jars I can see all of the fruit, and colors. ( I kinda feel like a Martha Stewart in training)

Oh... Best part?? Without the yogurt, these fruit cups are ZERO weight watchers points.... with the yogurt.... 2 points...!!!!!

Nap Blogger

Now that everything in my life is so different, maybe it is time to start blogging again : )

Charlotte, who is now almost 8 months old takes a couple of naps during the day. (One like an hour after she wakes up.... I'm not even going to call that a nap.... naps don't happen at 8 in the morning)

What do I do with my time when she is finally resting? Usually I clean, or "Pinterest" Now maybe I can be a "Nap blogger" haha.. I like the sound of that. Definitely sounds more fun than sweeping the floor... AGAIN : )

I will have to learn how to use this blog site again... it has been so long since I have been on here, that I think I might have forgotten! ) I'll have to ask Erica : )

It is summertime now, and I am enjoying every single minute of being home with our baby girl. Everyday I see something that she has learned. I can just see her soaking everything in. She has started sleeping in her own crib. YAY! This was much harder on me than it was on her. She has become very familiar with our routine, and it has actually created a couple of hours at night for some down time! (Currently Jordan and I are spending them watching all of the seasons of 24... while scarfing skinny cow ice-cream)

I am starting to plan Charlotte's first birthday party... Judge me for being Type-A if you want, but Nap-Time-Pinteresting has led me to dream about her first party already. I am so looking forward to all of the crafty-ness that it will lead to!

Again, my Type-A personality has come out and I have started thinking about first week of school already. CRAZY i know. I can't help it. It is a sickness I think : ) But I have found some really great ideas for the first week of school that I can share. (Once I start practicing again on how to upload pictures/links/ whatnot)
